Cumulative Tick Chart for 5-19-2010

May 19, 2010

Here’s the 5 min ES chart showing today on the far right. The cumulative tick did well in the morning for identifying direction, but got killed in the late afternoon sideways trade, as I suspected it would in chop (and pointed out at the time on Twitter):

Really, the holy grail is correctly calling a range bound market vs. a trending market IN REAL TIME. Anyone can call it after the fact, of course. More ideas to come…

Cumulative Tick Chart for 5-17-2010

May 17, 2010

Look at this 5-min chart for the last two days in ES. It has my cumulative tick indicator on it, which is continuing to impress me in how it picks the right direction in the markets. It’s using a paintbar to color-match with the indicator line in the lower panel:

And that’s a free indicator! I’m thinking (in what very little spare time I have) about entry and exit rules for this so I can program it into a strategy. It probably is death in a choppy market no matter what rules you use. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any suggestions.

The Complete Beginners Guide to Thinkscript

May 12, 2010

Thinkscript is the name of the code that we can use in Think or Swim charts to calculate and plot indicators. It’s a pretty simple language. If you are a code developer, then it’s no problem to pick it up by looking at some example code to figure out the syntax.

Well, some Think or Swim traders aren’t developers at all. So here’s a guide to just get a script from someone else (like me) onto your charts!

Email is the Devil

May 11, 2010

I have had emails (both sent out and incoming) swallowed whole by the internetz lately. I am beginning to loathe Gmail because of it. This means two things:

1. If you donated but never got a password, my email is either in your spam folder or got eaten by the internet somewhere. Please check your spam folders, and if it’s not there follow up with me if this is the case! I usually title the email something like “Thanks for Donating”, and the password is in there. It’s not just a thank-you note.

2. I never ignore emails from donors. If I don’t respond to email, you can leave me a comment on the blog, or “@prospectus” on Twitter and I will get in contact with you.

Thanks! X_X

Cumulative Tick Plot for Today’s Fire and Brimstone

May 6, 2010

Here’s the 5-min 20 day chart showing the ES. It said red all day long. If you were watching this, you were either flat or in the right direction from the open (i.e. short):

(Disclaimer: I didn’t trade anything today, and you should always do your own research.)
